Professor P. Kharel has been appointed the chief of Central Department of Journalism and Mass Communications at Tribhuvan University for four years. Kharel took charge of his office on May 27 amid a function at Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus.
Talking to MediaManch after assuming the post, Prof. Kharel briefly outlined his vision for the next four years. He said he will work to further enhance the quality of mass communication and journalism education in the country. "For that", he added, "my prime focus will be on revising course and introducing more comprehensive class assignments and practical exams."
Prof. Kharel has the experience of a practicing journalist as well as media academic with an experience of over 30 years. He served as Editor-in-Chief of The Rising Nepal (1994-96). Prominent media critic and columnist writing on national and internal issues Prof. Kharel has edited and/ or co-authored more than 15 media related books.
MediaManch team had caught up with him for an interview a few days before his appointment to the new position where he spoke about his opinion about different aspects of journalism practice and media education in the country as well as his different experiences.
